EMG vs Seymor Duncan

Post by Richy11 »

Who's used both of these, is there any major tonal difference. I've always liked the look of EMG's but I've never played Duncans before.

so many to choose from - the zakk wylde EMG set, the Dave Gilmour set etc etc etc or the Duncan Antiquities which are close to the original PAF's. What are you looking for?
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

zakk wylde set then.....

Seriously though, high output pups don't make much difference in the end, overdrive/distortion wise. Better off with a decent set of clean pups and using the amp and/or effects to get the scream.

Have a listen to the clips on the SD website, and pick something that floats your boat clean, then overdrive them later :)

Mainline/Music Works usually have some, but would probably need to order the JB's in....

The JB Zebra is around $240-$250 retail, and sometimes the wholesaler needs to order the non-black ones specially. The black one is a little cheaper. The prices are a bit variable depending on when they're ordered.

I can usually supply them a little cheaper for fine upstanding NZ Guitar patrons, though ;)

Go to this page and see what the tone wizard recommends:
http://www.seymourduncan.com/website/SD ... ndex.shtml
And then ignore it and go with the one has the nicest sound clip.

Personally I think EMGs are overrated/overpriced while SDs are just overpriced!! :D
The value is in the huge selection that lets you match the pickup sound to your guitar.

I haven't played with Duncan's before, but I love my EMG 60, 81 combo.

I use a seymore JB in the bridge of my yamaha. It absolutely rocks.I had to choose a pair of pups to put in a new esp,i thought those emgs sounded way too cold or sterile.the seymores are way more arm and cover a wider variety of styles.
Theres werent any black jbs or 59s in new zealand..so i chose a pair of PAF pros. Those are wicked wicked pups.
