Re: Gibson PAF 1962 Pickups
They were all wound kinda randomly so some of them are a bit hit and miss, but like classic cars theres a certain appeal to certain peopleslowfingers wrote: Ignoring their historical value for a moment, are they really going to sound better than the best newly wound pickups?

Re: Gibson PAF 1962 Pickups
Comparing the pictures to that website, I'm slightly skeptical about them. The corners of the covers, toolmarks on the feet and general condition of them are where I see fishiness. The wear patterns on the gold plating don't sem particularly convincing considering the lack of tarnishing overall.
But I'm only 10% skeptical, so don't take this as a proclamation of fakeness.

Pay no more than $50 each for these.
ash is right about tooling marks but as usual the big give away is the incorrect font and spacing on the decal...hence why fakers try and scratch some of the label away.
That makes me 99.9% skeptical. Sorry.

Re: Gibson PAF 1962 Pickups
The scratched labels did make me wonder, how something thats covered up would get scratched like that

Re: Gibson PAF 1962 Pickups
Well the decal can come loose in areas but usually not that bad when the rest of the pickup is (ridiculously) immaculate.
Could be a classic 57? Or a Burstbucker? Or a cheap Asian knock off?

I know nothing about old axes but this series is a '59 LP Jr conversion:
Damaged decal on what should be a genuine pick-up.
Mind you, I guess your point Unique is that it is easy to damage decals.
Sorry for any water muddying I've have done.

Re: Gibson PAF 1962 Pickups
Thanks so much for you input guys. I really appreciate it.
I'm going to flag buying them. as based on your comments, I can't be 100% sure they're genuine. I also did some asking around and the guy doesn't seem to have a very good record in the honesty department.

Good call.
Yes you can sure about their authenticity - they're not real.

If he knows what he's got then he probably knows what they're worth.
Still... would you be buying for investment? would suck if they were purchased as a ticket to tonal nirvana only to find that you got economy seating next to screaming kids instead of firstclass with bubbly.
