Re: Bill Lawrence L500
Those are not L500s, they are L90s which are a somewhat more P90 sounding pickup. They are amazing.

Re: Bill Lawrence L90
Cool, I have some B&B L490s that I need to stick in something, never found the right guitar though.

Re: Bill Lawrence L90
So I fitted them and have just had an hour noodling. They are very much like a P90 rather than a bucker which is not what I really wanted for this guitar. The 2.8 / 6.0 H is a good balance and they sound really nice clean. Cranked through the Orange and the AC30 they really are dirty / hairy sounding and it took me a while to adjust to the higher output.
I had some L500's once and I was hoping they would be in the same ball-park but just a bit warmer. If you want a P90-ish sound then they are great but I think I'll have to get some L500's now and try them instead
Anyone interested in these can have them for $150 the pair.

Re: Bill Lawrence L90
Um... Nik, the name may have alerted you to the fact that they were related to P90s
Which set of L500s did you have? I would suggest you try an L/R set, or even an R/R set for what you need. XL (which is what I used to use, and is what Dimebag and Nuno use(d)) would be far overkill.

Re: Bill Lawrence L90
Yeah I guessed the L90 meant it was related to P90 but when reading the B&B forum they were described as PAF-ish by many. They have that 'honky' vibe but there not like any PAF I have heard, much closer to my Gibson P90's.
I had an R/XL set and I really liked them.

Re: Bill Lawrence L90
One thing I suspect you may not get from L500s... is "warmth". In my experience with them, they're a very even, balanced pickup that can in some situations end up sounding too precise and clinical, just because the EQ curve seems almost flat with no strong accentuation in the mids, or treble/low end extension.

Re: Bill Lawrence L90
Yeah I know what you mean, thats why I tried the L90's. I will order some L500's and try them out. If that fails I'll go back to DiMarzio 36th annies and stop fucking about with it
