Jimmy Page pickup wiring

Post by Edwards »

Seriously thinking about one of these, now that I found out there are still some available.

What I don't understand, which they have, is what ESP call a 'super circuit'.
Did Jimmy Page have some special wiring in his guitar or something?
Can some kind person who is in the know about such things, please explain to me how this setup might affect the sound, advantages/disadvantages? cheers.

IIRC Page originally had coil tap and phase switches mounted under the pickguard. By the time anybody got round to copying him, push/pull pots had been invented.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

You dastardly fellows are too funny.
I know the question about how many pieces of mahogany was put as humour, but the answer is one piece, here is the pic.

So slowfingers, this has push pull pots? Never tried 'em. And what does parallel wiring mean/do?

This.

It looks like the volume pots are push/pull for a coil tap, and the tone pots are push/pull to change the phasing.

Ok cheers for that. I dunno what this means in actual sound options as I haven't tried a guitar with this setup.

Mmmm-mmm, single slab of mahogany. If only it said Gibson on the headstock then Rhett would be able to buy it.

Oh dear, yes if only it had a different headstock, then we would have solved Rhett's dilemma.
But now he is consigned to a life of plodding from guitarshop to guitarshop, searching for that elusive Gibson with the one piece body, if you see him tell him not to give up, it's out there somewhere...
Anyway the nice man who sells these sent me a diagram with some explanations. I have bought from him before so I know he is in fact a nice man.
But I looked & just saw *phase - coil - flux capacitor etc*. I gather it gives you more sounds you can make, I would need to play around with it for a few hours to understand.

Looks a bit shop soiled, I hope you're getting a discount! But seriously, I do like the look of the edwards stuff, PM NZRS_Matt and see if they have that model, they do have a few Edwards' in secret secret stock hidden away, I've got my eye on one!
