Gibson-style quick-connect plugs. Where would I get them?

Post by Molly »

Want to fit my Seymour Duncan and Bare Knuckle pickups in my new Les Paul. Wondering where in NZ I'd get some of these clips?

Be nice if they used the same colour code.

I think that's more work to be honest.

Do you crimp the contacts to the pickup wires then push fit them into the connector?

yes correct, you can remove the pins from the connector with a pin to release a little tag that holds the pin in
the crimper is the hard part but you can carefully solder the wire to the blank pin and just fold the tags over with some pliers

It's possible to buy them pre-wired from Reverb but it'd be $60 by the time I got them here.

When I replaced the pickups in an SG with this type of circuit board arrangement I found the wire colours between the neck and bridge pickups is actually different, really stupid idea but that's Gibson for you. You will see the order of the wire colour in the Molex connector is different for each pickup, but the pin layout on the circuit board for each connector is actually the same.

I may have the plugs I cut off mine which you could solder to the BK's, I'll check when I get home.

Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Ahh, poo. The picoblade thing itself is only sold in quantities of 100 at $30. I'm as well to just bloody cut the existing ones off.

how about making another quick connect in-between the pickup and the existing quick connect. You could put the male quick connects on the pickup end of the wire, and on the wire with the existing quick connects, you could put a female end. Does that make sense?
