Fender strat pickup points height

Post by BluezOldy »

I got an MIM Fender Strata few weeks ago. It's a 2005 model but was never played. Still had the plastic on it etc.

I don't know anything about strats but after looking at some strats in a store today, I notice the pickups on mine seem to be different to all the ones I looked at.

All three pups are exactly the same. Is this normal to have those points on the pups at different heights?

Found the answer thanks to a person on another forum (does that make me disloyal to NZG? :? ).

"... the polepieces are staggered in height to balance the loudness of the strings. Your's matches the older style so-called "vintage" staggering that was originally design to compensate a string set with a wound third (G string)."

I've got that vintage pickup stagger on my black Strat, but being a tone slob I don't notice much/any difference.
