Accept - Balls To The Wall

Black Sabbath - Heaven & Hell

Dio - Holy Diver

Dokken - Breaking The Chains

Anything Def Leppard - they may have been almost ruined by 18-23 year old university students but they're awesome to jam.

Demons & Wizards - Touched By The Crimson King

Dream Theatre - Scenes From A Memory (Some tracks are done with 7 strings but 'Overture 1928' is 6 strings in E standard.)

Exodus - Bonded By Blood , A Lesson In Violence

God Forbid - Gone Forever, IV: Constitution Of Treason

Kreator - Coma Of Souls

Okay that is enough, enjoy that wee Krank.

Check out Firebird

Firebird
Deluxe
No.3
Hot Wings

This is Carcass guitarist Bill Steer's, HEAVY blues band.
Totally awesome blues riffage, done in the power trio form.

If you want heavy, checking out Carcass is a must.
Albums: Heartwork & Swansong.

I know you have a thing for vocals but trust me, they were one of the true grindcore pioneers & the riffage is devastating

You get past growling and similar vocal styles rather quickly I find.

Carcass/Firebird are cool, so follow Phils advice.

Listen, not hear, some of the following:

Meshuggah
Cynic
Devin Townsend
Divinity
Opeth
Scale The Summit
Death

Etc...some killer playing, killer tones and amazing songwriting.

Man.. did anyone mention Fear Factory?

Dino Cazeras was one of the brootal pioneers. Check any Cazeras era Fear Factory and you will be on to a win.

Cynic are great, I know the blonde guitarist. He plays a really nice custom 7 (and an 8 ) made by a guy named Mike Sherman.

Opeth is a good suggestion.

A good recommendation for tight rythym playing would be to listen to Helmet's Page Hamilton.

Here's a silly question -- I heard 'My Mind Sedate' by Shihad on Monster Garage, thought it rocked, hard. Looked up their music videos, and none of them had that metal edge to them at ALL. Is stuff like their videos 'A Day Away' and 'Home Again' the rule, or that kick-ass song 'My Mind Sedate'?
