don't deliberately smile, but rather enjoy yourself, you will prolly look like you are enjoying yourself, and the smile will come out alot more natural 8)

nope I disagree, just look like a miserable bugger and stand with your back to the audience - it works for me

In fact, there is no better way for pulling birds then looking a tad queer, ladies love a challenge and it seems no woman can resist a poof!

angry_young_poet wrote:smile?? that's like a nz idol type performance.. and have you guys noticed that the singer for zed is always smiling (i think the record label told him to do that). .

you can smile, but not the kind of smile those nz idol guys do.. does everyone agree with me that it looks gay??

look impassive, look cool ;)
But... what if they are happy? Don't you smile when you are happy? I don't like to smile when I play my flute, 'cos you can't play flute when you are smiling, but I see nothing wrong with enjoying yourself while you are playing.

BTW I played for 200 people weekend before last - first time in 20 years. I was sitting playing my new electric acoustic... not too confident on a new bulky guitar, so seated was the best solution. Went well, and I smiled occasionally (is that OK Angry?) Had everyone warmed up after the first song... a reggae number thrown in for surprise value. My Daughter was on keys, and my older boy on bass as well, so we were very pleased.

you know what i mean... smiling to look good, not smiling ccuz you're having fun.. there is a difference!

honestly, i smile when i play, but because im enjoying myself, not to look cute for the audience..

I once saw a DVD of The Eagles playing. It put me off smiling when I play for life. (And, er, I won't ever be in a band where we have a little choreographed dance while we play).
