Are UPS's really that heavy/bulky?
I've never heard of them before, no surprise really since anything IT/computery goes well over my head

I was thinking two 6U cases stacked might be easier/ less back breaking than thee ole single refridgerator.
The power amp is the heaviest, 15kg.

In all honesty, rack mount power conditioners etc are probably a con, unless you're playing in a third world countries the power is clean and smooth, we only use ups's for the battery backup in a power outage to shut the machines down cleanly :)

an UPS would prolly be round that weight (for a 2X 7Ah gel battery one).

Do you know what the peak wattage drain of the whole rig will be?? Because ups's are limited in output, higher output equals higher cost :(

Im not so certain how necessary a line-shaper or power conditioner would be. I think just about all gear has built in tolerances of x amount. John or Clary would be people to talk to about that. I know when I took electronics I seem to recall them saying you cant put tolerances to tight or the product could be unstable due to how stable the input voltage is as well as over time some items may wear and their tolerances may change so overall design has to have room to give...

What got you looking at power conditioners? Maybe wait till one pops up at a really good price? What all do you have in your rack so far, what amps you using..?

I only ever started looking at power conditioners & voltage regulators since I had my sights on building a rack.
Just about about every rack I've seen has them, did a bit of research as to why people would have them & I think its makes sense.
Digital stuff isn't too fond of variations in power, particularly power surges.

So far
: Furman power cond
: Mako MAK4 pre
: VHT poweramp

As mentioned earlier I scored a power cond off TradeMe & I'd like to try & get a voltage regulator to maintain a constant 230v.

With the switching system & effects to still be sorted, I'm kinda just getting my ducks in line.

VHT power amp...... Cool, I dont know anything about the Mako, Ill have to read up on that. I wonder if a UPS rack would do the job for your, no idea what they cost or if they are the right size for a guitar rack.

A lot of folks are of the opinion that VHT/Fryette poweramps are the benchmark & I'm already loving my current VHT's so it was a no brainer :D

Check out the Mako amps site, its slides left to right, as oposed to up the regular up & down.
Theres a really good demo of the MAK4 on there.
Mako amps is pretty much a one man operation by the name of Andrew Solner, but I can't say enough good things about him.
Since my MAK4 is a 230v one, he had a batch of transformers which he ordered that were'nt up to his specs.
The delay in getting the proper spec'd trannys pushed back the shipping time for mine, as a result Andrew has payed for the shipping to NZ  :D
He's kept me up to date every step of the way. Mako gets an A+ for customer service in my book 8)

When he gets time he's gonna release his poweramps
They'll come in 2 options, EL34 or 6550.

The VHT poweramp is stereo, 50w per side of EL34 goodness 8)
Like most VHT power ratings, its conservative.
Clarry measured the output
40.5 watts RMS clip point
91 watts RMS max..... yup, plenty of power each side :D

I've done a test run in stereo thru a pair of 2x12 cabs & it sounded meeeean

Ahh yes, I've already put a plan in action

Tracking said the MAK4 left the US on the 24th.
Hopefully it gets here & clears Customs before Tronfest.

The poweramp test was done along with Koch Pedaltone.
