String squeak

My brief foray into research on string squeak on guitar says it's all my own fault, my technique is crap. However, I don't know how to correct my technique. I like to slide into notes for the feel I've developed.

Apart from flat wounds (which I used to play and am looking at going back to), what can you decent players suggest as an effective technique boost to eliminate this phenomena?
So far I've tried rolling off my amp or effects gain settings and boosting the amp volume instead. That seems to help a little, but it isn't the answer.

the only thing that comes to mind is to roll off the treble somewhat. I’ve never had an issue with string squeak on electric, but its a constant issue on acoustic for me.

Same here, until the strings wear in a bit.
