Pretty cool little guide from Andy Othling, meat and potatoes ambient tone.

Spooky, I would have said carbon copy and rv5 too, just maybe a different delay like the alter ego...

Re: Ambient Guitar on a Budget
To be honest, I'd just get a Dispatch Master, Reverb and Delay in one box for less than those two and sounds better than either at their respective jobs.
Totally agree on the Echopark though, I'll have to get myself another soon.

Yeah nah, no mod available for delay or 'verb and seems slightly bright for ambient to my ears. It's a very cool effect in its own right, as a spacious delay , I just wouldn't sub it in for delay and reverb.

V1's are, V2's aren't. You can tell which is which by a) the weight (v1's are lead bricks) and b) led flashes that let you know the Firmware version.jeremyb wrote:I thought they were really noisy?

I always feel like such a Luddite...
IMHO,
step 1: come up with some music that sounds reasonably "ambient", whatever that means to you.
step 2: figure out what you need to make it sound even more "ambient". If the idea is good, you won't need very much.
These "deus ex machina" solutions, expecting the gear to magically create something for you? They seldom work out.

I think the creative juices can flow both ways, most times I do as you suggest and find use effects to build on a musical idea but I've also had musical ideas inspired by a tone I was fiddling around with.

Re: Ambient Guitar on a Budget
I find the best results when I have the various components on, but all set to add subtle amounts of their effect. I can turn on all of my pedals at once and it still sounds musical, I reckon that's half the trick, and gets the juices flowing...

Re: Ambient Guitar on a Budget
I would substitute a Boss RV2, in thar for sure.
And I tend to get delays in pairs, so I'd use two echo parks . That may be a OCD thing?
Andy has a great you tube channel too

Re: Ambient Guitar on a Budget
nah it's just I'm one of those people vince described that can't make shit sound ambient without good pedals haha.Eruera wrote:Druz duzn't fuck around
Nah I actually write most ideas with the guitar not even plugged in, there's a few exceptions where a particular reverb or delay sound helps me create a part but for the most part it's written unplugged or no effects on (except fuzz, cause you need that)

interestingly I also did a video on this a few days ago, aimed at church guitarists, but valid for anyone. If you're interested, you can check it out at:
