Interested in how you have your amp and klon set and do you have the klon(e) on all the time or just for a boost? :mental:

In my mind, the Klon - I have a KTR Klon - has 2 great settings: gain just under 12 o'clock for a pretty-much-clean flat boost with nice added harmonic overtones; or gain fully dimed and a bit of added treble* for a nice overdrive.

Amp settings from clean up to the point of breakup.

* proper Klons have an active treble EQ but I'm not sure clones always do.

Swap back and forth between a Tumnus Deluxe and a gold Archer. Love the Archer, it's easy. Just wind in how much gain I want and it's done. The Tumnus is fiddlier. It has a mid control which gives a much wider tonal range than a Klon and I use it for mid EQ tweaks as well. But now I have a Boss GE7 on the board, I'll probably switch back to the Archer.

Probably play with way less gain than most here, but the Klones are my favourite way of putting some girth and character in my sound.

Fact is though, at a gig, where I can make a 12 watt amp sweat, none of the subtle enhancements are much needed so it's just a Zendrive for leads.

Gain at just before 9 o'clock, Treble at 10.30, Vol at 11 into a clean amp, or vol at max and gain at 11, Treble at 10.30 into an amp that's already a little dirty.

If you're trying to do the transparent overdrive thing, a good way to do it is to play your amp at a higher volume, then dial the amp back to your normal bedroom level, and see if you can mimic the way it sounded at the higher volume by using the Klon.
