Eddy Shaver's strat tone on the stuff he did with Billy Joe Shaver and they did as the band Shaver. Try the album Tramp on Your Street. Classic Strat into a Fender amp tone. Eddy Shaver could play anything with a Strat: blues, country, rock, slide, an unsung hero. Or the live album Unshaven: Live at Smith's Olde Bar by Billy Joe Shaver.

Brad Paisley's second Tele solo in the instrumental of Make A Mistake With Me. The cleaner one with the jazzy country sweep picking. Starts about about 0:55.

Actually his tone in the first (vocal) half of the track is pretty choice too. Tele into a pushed AC30 with what I suspect is a little bit of compression and a hell of a lot of finger dynamics.
I don't even bloody like Vox amps.

Is that an album or a song?

Re: Name a better tone than...
So many great tones out there. I did really like John Mayers tone on Continuum and Where the Light is, but the guy seems like such a douche it puts me off the whole vibe. Totally with BG in that Peter Green is the first guy I think of when it comes to great tone nowadays. And Gary Moore too. Maybe it's the guitar. Except Kirk Hammet seems to have figured out how to make it sound like shit. Not with BG on the anti SRV sentiment though, one of the greats for me. The whole thing about who has the best tone is that there is no one tone for everything. One of my favourite recorded guitar sounds is David Bowie on Rebel Rebel, but not sure how many other songs that tone would work for.

I'm not sure if I like the 'recovering Ego addict' vibe any better. "So I do the Grammy's and I go home cos otherwise I'll get high [on ego] again".
