Old dog, new Timmy trick.

If you have a Timmy, try this and tell me I'm crazy or not:
Turn the bass knob off. (Timmys tone controls work in reverse)
To my ears, I now have pretty much the sound I would expect from playing through an AC style amp; upper mid forward.
I can be easily pleased, I know but this may be the cheapest AC30 I've ever seen.
The other knobs, set to taste.

I've never owned a Timmy but have heard they are great.
T-Rex Mudhoney has been my overdrive for many years now - do they compare?

I only know the Mudhoney by reputation, so I have no idea. :D

Ben, didn't you have one?

Ha! I think I’m up to my 11th…

They’re not really like a Timmy at all, but it’s been the one OD pedal that I continually come back to. I love them.

I’ve got a Timmy V1, never tried this though. Will have to give it a go tomorrow.

I think this trick would be quite dependant upon the amp you're starting with. El84 tubes then yes. Mesa or Marhsall, highly unlikely.

I'm not a Timmy fan but I am a big Mudhoney fan. To me they are not alike at all.

I'm gonna have to try that. I'm a big Timmy fan. I think I could find a use for 3 Timmys on my board--maybe 4 now :-)

Surprising!

I love the gain range on a Mudhoney. At minimum, it’s super subtle, but can get into absolutely bonkers fuzz territory too

Fair point. I discovered it with a 6v6 amp and a Blue which I'm sure contributes its share.

Conway, how are you holding up? Has the water stayed where it should?

I moved house late last year and no issues at the new place, thankfully. I expect Sonia Ave would’ve suffered over the weekend… but it’s due to be bowled and rebuilt.

Excellent news all round!
Sonia Ave worried me a bit.
