Good grief!
I can't quite figure out if "Good grief" or "OMFG TEARS!" were positive or negative reactions.
I'm with NW, it's terrible. The whole Tim Henson/Polyphia thing was impressive when I first heard of it, but now it's boring and repetative. I have no idea what Steve Vai thinks he's adding to this (or the other track JB linked) as his style of playing just does not work in this context.
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

My reaction was not positive. I actually showed restraint. This place has tamed me!!

I'm on the far negative end too... that's my version of "restrained".

To make it clear, the sweet child of mine thing is a pisstake that another guy did in sync to the video for the real song :mental:

My son reckons all their songs sound exactly the same  and he has a point, but I kinda give them props for doing something new and unique on guitar, which is no small feat :-)

It sounds like a great ad for whatever compressor they use.

The whole two handed tapping and percussive slapping thing was already around when Polyphia hit the scene, Tim Henson may have pushed it further but he certainly isn't a unique player. There's a Japanese guitarist that I stumbled across on YouTube years ago that was doing similar things.

And your son is right

Took me about 4 days to get through this 1hr interview with Derek Trucks.

Partly because of getting interrupted by kids and pausing and rewinding.

Partly because of "who? what was that name? I'll research their discography before continuing"

Not much playing but a lot of great stories.

Maybe less enthralling if you're not as much of a Trucks fan as I am.

He's a more delicate and subtle player than his chat would suggest.
