I fret about some of my amps.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Got given this ages ago, my mate was moving and didn't want to take a broken amp, when I cracked it open a resistor fell out so I bought another one of the same value and soldered it in WALA
Pots are a bit crackly and a few knobs have the dial missing, but pretty good for $1.70

Had Sunday lunch then a gossipy catch up with my project lead from my old company, CTO is appearing to be even more unhinged, which was nice.
Consequently only got an hour or so to do the tolex wrap.
I’d love crème vents like the head I did for Ben but can’t justify the costs yet.
Anyway, wrapped it is. Corners are silly easy when they’re going to be covered.

I had the JMP sitting on my lap while I was watching YouTube today. Multimeter testing all the passive components to see if anything is wonky. Tricky to do in circuit, because sometimes you get half the expected reading etc (e.g., grid stoppers in parallel).
I could not find anything apart from a little drift here and there. The old mustard coupling caps are letting a tiny bit if VDC through too, which is not ideal, but I'd have to test them out of circuit to be sure. One resistor reads 4.7K, but the schematic says 47K, but I think that might just be the multimeter setting.
Important stuff like the screen and plate resistors are all A okay and spot on. That's good. That old Erie filter cap seems okay too (I suspected it was kaput). Pots are all good too. Not sure about the EL34s though.
I am trying to track down the source of a bit of hiss in the treble channel, plus what sends the amp into oscillation when cranked and then the presence is turned up. It sounds great, but can be better.
I can't really be effed with playing needle in a haystack at my low skill level, so will let a professional give it a refresh (when I decide who to take it to -- I do not want to bother Clarry with it, so might try that guy down in New Lynn -- there's some bloke in Blockhouse Bay too who is supposed to be good with Plexi stuff, but I dunno his deets)).
