Amp stand for head+cab?

Post by jimi »

Any one gigging a small head+cab setup and have a good solution for tilting the cab back and keeping the head on top? Something other than putting it on the ground next to it anyway?

I've got something similar to this, but its too steep for the head not to fall off.

Spotted this online, but don't see them stocked in NZ - have pinged the RS on whether they can get them as they have other products from the same crowd.

Any other / better ideas? Thinking maybe a keyboard stand to keep it horizontal, but have it up at a good height.

As stupid as it sounds, I have a couple of really strong and bullet proof plastic shot glasses. I put them underneath my 212 cab that stands vertically as well as my AC15. Just the right amount of subtle tilt. Worth a try, though I probably wouldn't recommend a glass shot glass for obvious reasons

Use a suitable combo stand. Run a light ratchet load strap around the head and cab to lock them together and rock on.

I have managed this by having the cab on the tilt stand and moving the head forward until the rubber feet just hang over the front of the cab. Head stays on. Looks a bit naff.

What about the ol' Fender piggyback approach? Couple of chunks of metal poking out the top of the cab, then latches underneath the head to stop them sliding backwards.

A giant cable tie holding it all together? Then lean it back with a rope tied around your waist. Keep the tension up, and don't move while playing.

You're welcome.

I’ve often wondered if you could attach something under a head that would hook through the handle on top of the cab.

Fender piggyback brackets are a great solution if you don’t mind drilling the mounts into your cab.

Great ideas, though I’m holding out for something more elegant than a chair, which is sadly the best so far.

It's gonna take up exactly the same floor space, so why not set them up on a couple of plastic crates? Like not leaning back but at a better height.

Or get a road case that could do the same thing once the amp is out of it?

Far from elegant, but I have one of those folding hand trolley sack barrow things like this one, you could prop the front up with door stops or similar and it doubles as an easy way to load in and out too!

get an amp stand, put speaker cab on amp stand, slide an elegant plank or piece of plywood etc down the back of the speaker cab so its sticking up over the top of the speaker by the height of your head - and then lean the head against this piece of wood that is sticking out the top.

I have on occasion used two elegant pieces of wood so as not to obscure the head vents on the back.

This is exactly what I do, it works a bloody treat. If you're worried about drunken punters knocking it off, use a bungy cord to hold the amp to the elegant plank.

I can take a photo later if its unclear.
