Mesa Fillmore 25 - any experiences?

Post by Kiwiaxe »

Semi interested in the Fillmore 25 combo on Trademe. But I while I like the concept (and am a long term Mesa fanboy), I don’t know what the execution is like!

Anyone got experience with the 25s? Seems to be quite a bit on the net about the 50s but less on the 25s

Not with the amp but that's the guy who sold me my mini rectifier. That Fillmore was there when I went to pick up my amp. I asked how it was and he said it was great but he never played it and was thinking about selling it. And here we are.

Bought the head and 2x12 some time back - I’d highly recommend! I personally like the 2 identical channels thing, usually have both on clean, one with gain low for clean clean, one with gain right up, for edge of breakup, pedals for spanking it when required.

I think everyone raves about the 50? But have only heard what I have so no clue nor care on what I may or may not be missing out on.

Rob has the 50 which was mine for a nanosecond
I seem to remember him having some comments about the 25 vs the 50
There that was useful wasn’t it

25 is much less popular than the 50 and gets some grief on the forums. I own the 50 and have played both 25 and 100 in store. I may have mid in my ears, but the 25 was no worse. Dunno if there were any speaker differences. The 25 does lack clean headroom like you'd expect, but these amps are best being pushed with gain and volume above halfway.

If I had to choose one amp from my collection to gig with or as a "do it all (or most of it all)" it would be the Filmore.

Have purchased.

I had the guy’s contact details from a previous trade, so offered him what I think is about $50 more than he would get via a Trademe purchase. Weirdly said no /shrug so I bought it via TM and ping.

Well done man

He was super ornery and cranky with me in messages too, with one word answers and zero budging, but in person he couldn't be nicer.
