Starting my journey on the search for my perfect LP Standard

Hey team,
I want a LP Standard now. And not any, but the best for me!
I know this is super personal but what are the tips out there to find the balance between buying the best spec LPS you can afford and what to look out for?
Its also tough as it’s full of fakes everywhere now….

Anyway I would like an everyday axe that I will use mainly to play the blues and rock bonammasa/slash style so on those tea type of tones.

I got my black beauty for my heavy stuff. This one I want a more classic Gibson sound to play it without so much pedal and stuff.

As old as I can afford probably 1980/90 and with a slim neck!

I know there’s a lot of seasoned LP guys here so please help me in my journey to find the one!

Early 90s occasionally show up and are reasonably affordable, $3000-$3500 from memory. They're usually pretty plain tops. Not sure what the neck profiles are like though. A lot of them will be nearing re-fret time, if not there already.

A newer Standard 60s might inflate your dinghy. They're frequently for sale, not sure what they're selling for. Or an R0 if you have the coin.

Try all you can. Some are magic, some are lemons, regardless of year.

Or buy a Heritage H150 and have a better guitar for less

Good luck with the hunt, it's certainly good fun! Personally I would rather have a Greco or a Tokai over a Heritage, plus I don't think the headstock's on the Heritage LP's look great. But that's just subjective and personal preference

I'm ugessing as it's your first LP having any different name on the headstock other than Gibson probably isn't quite gona cut it

If you can try them in person do that for sure, my first proper Les Paul was a 97 Standard and it was a good one. My current Les Paul is a 2007 Classic and I think it’s on par with my 90s however I have some low wind A2 pickups in it which is a big part of the tone for me.
I’ve played lots of LPs and it’s a bit of a case by case basis. 90s ones are starting to go up so it might in fact be a good time to buy one of those without the risk of depreciation.

2019 was a great year for tops! And there seemed to be less chunky necks being made.

the heritage is cool but it doesn't even have a Standard LP headstock

Looks coool but I’m not a fan of signature series, why are you selling it? And what’s the neck type?
