Guitar finish touch up

Post by Lemmings »

Hey guys - looking for some help again. Im kind of gassing for this new V they've put out - a 'worn finish' 3 pickup jobby.

Image

The only thing i dislike about it is that the worn finish looks like some P-smoker at Gibson has been a bit too liberal with the belt sander application

Image

Is there any kind of black paint that you might be able to rub into the wood to make it a bit more uniform looking or would a complete re-finish be in order? Maybe i'll just learn to love it.

Also, does anyone make a decent uncovered humbucker-sized p90?

that looks great, though the metalwork needs the application of some special 'relicing' fluid ;)

Yeah looks like said Gibson employee might have already applied the urineum treatment to the pickups at least. I do like the fading, would just seem a bit wierd to open up a brand new guitar like that. Anyway I think I would make a pretty sweet live guitar. Very \m/ Metal \m/ A p90 for some bluesy stuff in the neck perhaps.

All a matter of taste. I've never enjoyed playing them, but that doesn't mean you won't, mate!!

I find mine pretty comfortable, even sitting down, though mine is the stupid goth model with no fret markers on the front - perhaps I need to stop looking at the fretboard ;)

its only the epi, though its actually one of the better epis I've played, bit neck heavy as the mahogany is very light but set neck etc...

yeah they look cool. I'm after a Gibby one if I was going to get one though. I'm sure the year I got the voodoo was the year they stopped making the Goths (and they stopped making the voodoo the next year! hahah I love mine)

I dunno why I'm GAS'ing, I should be getting the Ash Radian soon! *swoon*

The Gibson Faded V I had was superb. Insanely light for you skinny guys, but balanced perfectly. Nice fast flat D profile neck. Sounded great too.

Yeah that guitar is pretty sweet but I don't think you should re finish it having the non-glossy finish on the neck makes it so much easier to play

True for many people, which is why you'll often see advice about taking to a new neck with 000 steelwool, to shake that sticky gloss a little.
