Lol, I hadn't heard that John McEnroe anecdote, that's funny.

For me Alladin Sane and Diamond Dogs are on a pedistal, I listened to them endlessly as a kid. Diamond Dogs has some fascinatingly dark moments and killer guitar work.

He was in some "Underated guitarists" list I read a while back. I saw some live thing years ago where he was cutting loose, quite cool.

Scott Gorham from Thin Lizzy

This guy's the reason I started playing guitar, he was the coolest thing I'd ever seen when I was 13!

saw him a few months ago, twas amazing, captivates the entire audience,.
someone was talking so he stopped and told them to shutup or get out  so we didnt have much choice in the matter!
just wished he played more guitar instead of telling mildly interesting stories and changing tunings between EVERY song!

the ritchie blackmore starting it statement made me think. on average, I wonder how many people's first song to learn (however butchered it was for me) was smoke on the water? I suspect an overwhelming majority, but I can only be subjective about it I guess..

definitely the first riff I ever butchered learned.
