Went to my local guitar shop to buy some picks last week and came back with an Art & Lutherie Folk Cedar and absolutely love it.

Art and Lutherie make really good guitars at super cheap prices. I really can't understand how they do it given just the price of the materials. They're manufactured in Quebec, Canada. Godin acoustics get consistently good reviews. I think you got the nicest colour.

You can pick the dreadnought version up on Trademe once in a while; there are a couple on there now.

I've only seen one Art and Lutherie parlor second hand in NZ though and it was the all-ply version. The parlor is a killer little blues guitar. I haven't seen a folk one up second hand yet.

Art and Lutherie are made by Godin who also make the Seagull, Norman, Godin electrics, La Patrie, Simon and Patrick as well as the Art and Lutherie and they're all good guitars and all made in Canada.

It took a year for my Ami to open up and it did it all of a sudden, from one day to the next. One morning I just woke up and it sounded better!

I love the colour: I think that was what first grabbed my attention in the store window. There's a dreadnought in spruce burgundy still there looking all lonely now but if that arrived home, divorce papers would follow quick smart.

My shop guy told me that the Canadian govt is providing some kind of tax relief to Godin (maybe that's industry-wide to exporters but I have no idea) which makes for great prices down here.

Could be, but they're even cheaper in the U.S even with electrics.
I just love mine. The scale length (24.9), the feel of the neck, the weight (the parlor is hefty for it's size), the old timey sound. Plus it's just really comfy to play.

My only complaint is I really wish a case had been an option with it. I figure I'm going to have to order a couple parlor sized cases in. Probably from Elderly Instruments in the U.S.

I've got to wait for the dust to settle and the credit card to be paid off first though or like you the spouse would probably kick me out the door, guitar in hand.

My dealer sold me a CNB brand hard case (AUD$95-00 so all up AUD$494-00 - the dreadnought is also AUD$399 - there must be someway I can get the dough for it ) for my Folk-size which was a perfect fit, probably better than any other guitar/case that I've got. Don't know if they make a parlour-size although they seem to make everything else. CNBs are readily available here so I guess they would be in NZ as well.

Parlor sized cases are hard to find in NZ, that's why I'll probably order them in. For now I've got my two best guitars in cases, the Ami in a really old one I got given to me and the Larrivee in the classical sized case it came with. The poor old Harmony is in the spare room out of harms way further away from the wood stove.

I won't be buying anything at all for a while though!

Know what you mean. Everytime I see my wife with a bundle of papers (usually after one of my GAS attacks), I can't help wondering, "divorce papers?" My dear wife insists food, petrol and heating are more important at the moment.

More important than music? That's ludicrous. Music makes the world go around. Food and petrol isn't going to be much good to you if the world stops going around. These wives talk crazy.
