"don't know the details of my advance
but they sent a hired car and I learn how to dance
don't own the publishing, never own written a song
still sold myself to the label for 10 years long
so my comprehension skills aint that flash
you can catch me at the next charity bash
they champion a cause of which I've never heard
here's the cue cards, say the words
23 tatts, 100 pairs of clothes
I shaved my head and pierced my nose
my agent says my career in it's death throes
don't ask me there's so little I know.
to my loyal fans don't burn my CD's
after the label takes their cut there's not much for me
half a percentage point is my royalty
lucky I endorse every third thing you see
you probably won't see me this time next year
it'll some new face that you cheer
'cos even 12 months in this business has become a long time
the training did nought for my voice but i can mime"

LOL! Only when I disagree with them!foal30 wrote:I hope you do not mean the NME, Vince.
Yeah, I think Eno does the same thing, for the same reasons.foal30 wrote: New Order do not publish lyrics because they not only wish the audience to have their own meaning, but their own lyrics.
the misheard line etc
How about a whole career? Diana Ross? Julio Iglesias? There's lots of people who only do love songs.foal30 wrote: An album of love songs seems ridiculous to me and I imagine painful for any listener.

Re: I usually struggle...
Writing lyrics is half the fun for me. I've grown out of writing blatantly stupid shit and have moved on to pseudo-philosophy
Half the people at our gigs don't know wtf I'm saying anyway so I guess it doesn't matter haha. If I do feel the need to inject a bit of personal heartfelt meaning into a song I just make it rather vague and hard to interpret so I don't feel so exposed.. But hey I said what I wanted to say

Re: I usually struggle...
I thought blues was the other thread
I'd already shifted then lost stuff due to confusion.
I could be off my game.
Brian Eno = fanboy of Wellington's very own Jet Jaguar. how cool is that.

You could do what Enya does and make up vocal sounds instead of using words.
Ooo er.
Ooo er.

??? Is she doing that now? I haven't bought oe of her albums since "Watermark".DarcyPerry wrote:You could do what Enya does and make up vocal sounds instead of using words.

There's also the one from the Cocteau Twins, she'd make up imaginary words while listening to the rest of the band through her floorboards.

Re: I usually struggle...
There was a thing about Sigur Ros on the radio last year... that said some of their songs have English words, some Icelandic and some in a meaningless fake language. The fake language has a name, but I can't remember what it is. I got the impression they didn't just make it up themselves, though.
Oops, had to edit some of my own fake language there...

Re: I usually struggle...
Except on their latest album, all their albums are in their own random made up language. But it's very convincing sounding, if not a bit silly

I believe it's called "Hopish"?ash wrote:The fake language has a name, but I can't remember what it is. I got the impression they didn't just make it up themselves, though.
EDIT: My bad...
From Wikipedia.
"All of the lyrics on ( ) are sung in Vonlenska, also known as Hopelandic, a constructed language of nonsense syllables which resembles the phonology of the Icelandic language."
There's an article here...

One made up language I really liked is whatever it was The Sims spoke in.
I copied all the stuff from the Sims' "rap" station to my MP3 player and it's a hoot.
