Who uses a Hot Cake?

I tried one last night for the first time, Gotta say I really liked it.

You can get a proper clean boost out of it which a lot of overdrives I've used can't manage. I thought the overdrive was really nice, has plenty more grit than I'd need.
But I found the tone control the most interesting of all, it really has a strange control over tone which voices the overdrive in many different ways.
I could get really soft creamy overdrive and massive crunch.

I think I may have found the Overdrive for my rig.

I've heard mixed opinions on the pedal, who else here plays with one? Any input?

I think that for pushing el84 based amps, it's a hard pedal to beat!
I liked the gain anywhere before noon; after that it got all splatty in an unmusical way.
Before that though, fantastic crunch!
I used it with my ac30, but both are gone now.

I had one for a bit, mainly used it on bass. Like most pedals (but I think moreso than most), on some amps and guitars it works and on others it doesn't.

I found for bass it was picky about the bass, less about the amp (was using a GK, and tube heads by Ampeg and Orange). Sounds great with Jazz Bass or a G&L L2000, but never liked it with a Rickenbacker, got real farty.

Wasn't so into it on guitar, but found the amp mattered more than the guitar itself. Using an SG or a Tele, I really liked it with an AC30, but with a Jansen Bassman it was kinda harsh (only setting I liked was maxed out).

I have a Bluesberry. Cool pedal. Excellent boost and you can get some creamy tones.

I have one it's great. Everything at around 12 oclock is where I have mine with tone and gain just a wee bit higher. Great for pushing my Overdrive channel, filling out my cleans, and adding creamy sustain to other distortion pedals sounds for solos

I have the double. It's cool as hell with EL84 amps. I use the bluesberry for a nice ACDC crunch and the hotcake for a fatter, bassier version. I pump the presence up on mine and keep the drive fairly tame.

I have one of the first ones that came out - a two-knob one (a level and a drive control) and a mid-lift switch. I use it all the time with my tweeds for insane-sounding lead geetar. I had to replace the stomp switch in it the other day cos I used it so much 'twas worn out, but now its got a new lease of life.

I had one, but since getting a Fender amp didn't like the sound of it so much.

Seems to be the unanimous call around here, no good with Fenders, but brilliant with British amps (EL34's and 84's).

The reason that they do a clean boost is that unlike most OD pedals that add gain as you turn up the gain knob, the Hotcake actually blends your clean signal with a heavily distorted signal (a bit like the Holy Grail reverb pedal I believe).

Happy to be corrected if I am wrong though, that's just what I've read about them.

Makes sense though, they seem to have a gritty yet clean sound that is hard to describe, a combination of the clean and dirty signals.

The hotcake is the perfect work horse pedal. Good for general playing but not a crazy noise machine.

I use a hotcake for 90% of stuff and a fuzz factory for anything requiring more get-up-and-go.
