SG Lust

Post by GrantB »

Anyone else find these white SG's with Maestro's incredibly cool? I'm going to "make" one from an SG husk I just got from eBay. I have everything else. actually, I'd rather have the real thing....

I love most SGs! That white one is nice.
I don't like the current SG standard much. I thought I did, but after tyre kicking one at the K-Rd RS lately (sorry Matt  ), I thought is was lightweight, felt cheap, didn't play well and I don't like the lack of pup surrounds. it must take some time/aging and setup to get that real SG mojo, or a few extra K on the price tag.

The nicest guitar I ever played was a SG deluxe. My mate is still lamenting it's theft several years later.

I'm with you there...don't see many around in NZ. They had the T Top pickups which are nice and bright and the one piece body, bound finger board. V. nice indeed.

This one was brownish from memory, it had the headstock repaired at least twice and it had THE nicest action of any guitar I've ever played. Even with the headstock repair it would be worth a mint.
I thought is was a '70s SG deluxe, but my sister insists it was a '60s one, her ex was the owner, Gavin Dowling. He has had some really nice guitars stolen over the years. He is still on the lookout for this one and I don't blame him.

All Gibson SG referencing and catalog perving can be done here: http://everythingsg.com/index.php/refer ... alogs.html

and here: http://everythingsg.com/index.php/refer ... odels.html

I rememeber Gavin's SG being alot like this one but darker, except the bigsby had been taken off and I can't remember the pups. All I remember was how amazing it felt to play. It has been my benchmark for a good action ever since and the source of eternal SG gas.

You are correct here...it will have been a 71 or 72 most likely...not many were sold and they only did them for 2 years...from memory anyways. I have a walnut 72 deluxe and it begs to be played hard and loud!
