Yeah mines been under the gun for 3 months straight, including use by my 8 yr old son. They are giant killers & make enough heat to prove it.

Because no matter what amp you currently have, you recommend the amp before it; you got the fender, you recommended peaveys, you got the Dr Z and now you're recommending fenders...mr_sooty wrote: If I'm such a Fender man, how come my amp is an EL84 powered DrZ?

I remember you adamantly telling me that valve amps are just as reliable as SS. what has made you change your mind? surely not Rog?BG wrote:Well I know I'm going against the grain but for these types of tones, you don't need valve, they're bigger, heavier, more expensive and unreliable. Really you just need a decent Solid State like a Jazz Chorus or Fender Pro![]()
Or you could buy a Bellbird which has this tone in spades if required

Nah can't have been me... I know how unreliable they can be thats why I always take my POD X3 as a backuprocklander wrote:I remember you adamantly telling me that valve amps are just as reliable as SS. what has made you change your mind? surely not Rog?BG wrote:Well I know I'm going against the grain but for these types of tones, you don't need valve, they're bigger, heavier, more expensive and unreliable. Re: Buying a tube amp
I can see what you're saying, but it's a bit generalised. I've always recommended the Peavey Classic 50, but I've also always recommended the Blues Deluxe over the Classic 30 - although I think the Classic 30 is a good amp too which I'd recommend on a $700 ish budget. My preference out of these 3 amps is Classic 50 (although too big for most people's tastes), Blues/HR Deluxe, Classic 30. I definitely think the Blues Deluxe is a better sounding amp than the Classic 30, although it is a bit loud. I have never owned a Blues/HR Deluxe, or a Classic 30, but I have heard plenty of both. I owned a 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue, which is a different amp, and while it is good for a specific style and situation, I don't recall recommending it to anyone here. I would happily recommend the Dr Z if the OP's budget was $3K, and not $1Ktonymcbony wrote:Because no matter what amp you currently have, you recommend the amp before it; you got the fender, you recommended peaveys, you got the Dr Z and now you're recommending fenders...mr_sooty wrote: If I'm such a Fender man, how come my amp is an EL84 powered DrZ?

I have a head for sale which might suit you http://www.nzguitars.com/auction/auctio ... _id=100301
I'll admit to only skim reading your first post
but it seemed like you wanted a tube amp with nice cleans? It's got rather nice cleans and loves pedals (just ask BG or Gelato), might be right up your alley

I'd say you don't like tube amps, but it's pretty clear that tube amps don't like you.Aquila Rosso wrote:Tube amps are dodgy pieces of shiet, They suck, get a pod.
I bet that GT10 will be the best thing you ever bought.

Thought you might want it back. The green light goes now tooBG wrote:damn why are you selling when I have no cash

When I got it I didn't think there was any way I'd sell it in the foreseeable future, I'll no doubt regret it down the track.

Re: Buying a tube amp
I know many of us here are in the same boat, but IMO, one should have a valve AND an SS amp. Although they essentially do the same things, they do differ in their use. For instance, if I was playing at an RSA (do they still have those??) I know that volume is always an issue, so my Fender SS althought its a 160W twin, is more controllable and can sound 'gooder' at lower volumes than my all valve Boogie. OTOH My Mesa, although its only 20W, likes to be wound up a little and doesn't really sound so good at the lower volumes.
Of course that is a simplification and not at all suggested as a rule, but I hope it imparts what I'm trying to say - that each has strengths.
