Early Xmas Guitar... oh yeah...!

Post by The Scarecrow »

Well, Christmas came early for me. Despite the fact that Kristie is soon to leave our shores, much to my dismay as it will distance a long-standing band/guitar/geeking commaradery, I did get first dibs on some of the stuff she was flogging off (she is selling some good toys guys, hit her up about them) and I've had my eye on one of these for a one, having always been in awe of this one here.

It's a 1983 Ibanez Roadstar II custom which looks wicked (far better than my crappy cellphone photos) with the birdseye sunburst body and cream pickups/binding. I have always liked these guitars and consider them strong contenders to stuff like Mexi and Jap strats, especially the 3x single coil setup ones like these. This one is quite traditionally strat-sounding with the 5-way switch, even more so than many strats I've played. I'm not usually a fan of rosewood fretboards on strats (maple just looks and feels better to me), but this one is something quite special.

Will probably tweak it with new strings and bring the action up a bit (it's like subterranean low at the mo, more so than what I'm used to) but its one of those beauties which sounds mint stock-standard, which seems to be something these 70's and early 80's Ibanez guitars were really good at. Cranked it out with the new rock/alternative band I'm playing last week and it held ground well considering I usually use my SG or Explorer with them, though I think it will be better suited to the pop outfit I'm also in.

Now... if I can make it through Xmas without buying anything else, i should be okay...

That is rather nice. It's looks to be in great condition.

That SG GT of yours was really nice too. I don't like the look of them in pics, but in person it was a really nice guitar and it had a much higher quality feel to it than current SG standards.

Wasn't that stolen from Kristie at some point? Didn't know she'd "past participle of get" it back!

nice!

-funnily enough I've spent a bit of time yesterday and today poring over ibanez catalogs. They did a lot of cool stuff in that vein around 80-83. Then they got a bit ugly with it 84-85, and 86 was the start of the Rich Lasner widdle guitar designs (Jem, sabre, 540 etc) -whole new ballgame.

Lies! I do Yamaha for acoustics and pianos ;-) And I used to play a samick my dad bought for 'us kids' back in the days before I bought my own guitar. But yeah ok, I have to admit for electrics I'm mostly an Ibanezbian :P

I sorta have a sorta les paul... but it's not really for sale, not really a Gibson, and it sorta is mostly, not really a complete guitar... don't ask
