7 string, 8 string, baritone, whats the dealio???

Baritones are usually built for players who want to tune lower without having to install heavy guages....

I recently built an 8 string baritone with a 28.31'' scale for a player who wanted all the range an 8 can offer but also did not want to play on heavy guages..

However the bigger the scale the more snap and brightness it will have, usually this is why big bands like M E S H U G G A H play on huge scales, its because they need this snap and punch thype of sound....

Personaly my favourite scale is 27.5'', after having bult many many many many 7 strings for exemple, I can confirm that a 7 string is at its very best potential with that scale using 9-42-59 guages...

Baritone does not mean more range really, for exemple if you play a baritone 6 string, its because you want to tune it lower but you then miss the high range, so a 6 string baritone is not an extended range guitar really....

Funny thing is that most companies now market them as being extended range guitars because it sounds cool and many kids go out and buy them thinking that they bought an ERG hahaha

Serious question: Do they/can they make guitars with an a above e?

A lot of guitarists play a lot of their work on the small frets, which with my slight LH disability I find difficult to do. Anything past 15th or 17th at a real stretch, is practically off limits to me. With an extra a, those notes would be far more accessible.

Usually a player who wants a high A wants a 9 string guitar........

I'm currently working on a 9 string design which will be tuned F# B E A D G B E A so it will have a complete range....

For the purpose of playing around. TM has reasonable cheapie bass for around the $200-$300 mark.

I have tried octave pedals, bass emulations stacked with sine waves and all sorts. I've tried many ways to reproduce a bass sound and even the closest I have got is still far away.

If you need a bass get one. A 7,8 or even 9 won't do it, barritone or not......... you would be better off getting a casiotone

But it all depends which range the player needs really...

But this has been around for many hundereds of years, in classical guitar for exemple, some guitars are built in order to play some old lulte music, they can go up to 13 strings

As i'm learning I wanna record some tracks and play around, but doing bass parts without a bass guitar is obviously a bit tricky, if I had a 7 or 8 string could I get decent enough basslines out of it? also what about a baritone? what tuning do people generally use on them?

Someone suggested that you could use software to drop an octave. I have used this although I found (as you would expect) that some notes get a bit muddy. It was also a lot of messing around for something fairly basic ... but I had to do it because I didn't have a bass at the time.

The easier thing to do would be to see if you can borrow a bass as well. Makes all the difference having the real thing.

Ahhhhhhhh ... so many jokes I could make with that last line.
