If you are still interested, the Country Calender Theme is "Countin' Flowers on the Wall" by Heatherly Eric.

Welcome Bernie!
Hey, is it too off-topic to ask where the guitar tune they use in the "Wellington trains" commercial comes from?

That's the old Statler Bros. hit, isn't it... No, the CC theme is actually called "Hillbilly Child" and was written and 'probably' performed by Alan Moorhouse...BernieB wrote:If you are still interested, the Country Calender Theme is "Countin' Flowers on the Wall" by Heatherly Eric.
...and has anyone actually done anything with it yet?!

Re: Country Calendar Theme..
I've put the Intro into guitar pro but then ran out of steam, but I hope to get back to it at some stage. I found the rhythmic nuances of the performance quite hard to notate accurately.

In 1974 I was playing with Midge Marsden. At the time he worked for Radio NZ. Midge told me he supplied the theme for Country Calendar out of the music library, and it was a copyright free recording made by a FRENCH band. I'm not kidding. A lot of people believed it was written by Wellington session guitarist Kevin Watson. Not true.

Re: Country Calendar Theme..
This is true it is Alan Moorhouse, but I think the other post about the french version makes sense when you hear them side by side, I downloaded the Moorhouse version from iTunes last night for $1.79, there's a whole album of Big Beat by him there for less than the price of breakfast at a cafe, if that's your cup of tea. Thanks for posting the above info by the way, I was in the mood for the tune and google brought up this post which put me on the right path to finding the track. I remember as a child hearing a band play this at Goveners Tavern, sometime in the early to mid 80's as I walked along the banks of the Mighty Waikato river - I was totally in awe of the sound and couldn't understand why my mum wouldn't take me to the pub for a look. looking back I wouldnt take a seven year old there either, or a 27 year old come to think of it, but the point was that it was a definitive moment in my life, it's nice to have the soundtrack - thanks.corsair wrote:That's the old Statler Bros. hit, isn't it... I found the video via Facebook Country Calander Appreciation Society, hosted on YouTube... the clip is about 39 seconds - BUT - it did supply this link http://www.kiwitabs.derail.co.nz/index. ... tab&id=441 which I'm sure is what most of you on here want to see.
Also thanks for the tip on A Dog's Show Theme, that is my next piece in the puzzle, which by the way IS Statler Bro's. originally and features on the movie Pulp Fiction. Here's a link for the notation and tab to Counting Flowers On The Wall - http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mt ... =MN0040048
I found an Instrumental version by Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/nashvillebrass
Close, but again I think TVNZ may've had another studio record from sweden or something when you A-B this version to the one in your head... or my head at least, the tv one seemed so much more... Brittish. NZBC hangover I'd say.
As far as YTube covers go, this is one of the better ones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HefNygaB ... re=related
And in this one you can see what the guy is playing, if it helps you learn. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZDPF0ZP ... re=related
Finally. Regarding the Goodnight Kiwi, I remember at school we used to do that, it's a song in Maori... wait while I google it... Ahhh here we go http://folksong.org.nz/hine/index.html This has notation and a MIDI file, I'm sure the Tab is out there but really I'm more into this sort of thing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FytQp0Ma ... re=related I think the extra part on the end sums it up nicely - If you like that sort of thing though http://www.nutsie.com/album/Lifestyle%2 ... ng/4836224 is the one, he set up the recording studio Sound 80 in 1969, his commercial compositions are very similar to the old TM Studio Records radio stations used to use, which I stumbled upon a whole bunch of ten years ago in an abandoned TRB building in Hamilton, alond with 12inch discs of Rick Dee's weekly top 40... memories..
Anyway, going off topic. Hope this helps someone.
Cheers
