What's my Jansen worth?
Hi all,
Got a mate who borrowed my amp a few years back and now he wants to buy it... actually, he's always wanted to buy it, but I've held out on him for ages.
It's a Jansen 6-45. I've never seen another one anywhere, so I'm kinda thinking they're rare... but I dunno... there might be a few floating round the nth island. Never seen another down here.
Nice amp and it works well. Basically standard. Original trannies but new valves, caps and some new components here and there. Valve driven tremolo. No reverb. Celestion G12M-70s. I still have one of the original Jansen labeled speakers.
If there's anyone here in the know, I'm just wondering what's a fair price to ask?
Cheers

Nice amp, sure you want to sell it?
Sadly, no idea what it's worth.

Oooh very cool amp dude, unfortunately I also have no idea how to put a price on it, a $1 reserve auction on trademe would sort that out, but obviously you wouldn't want to do that!
How can I be sure I'm here?
The pills that I've been taking confuse me...

Re: What's my Jansen worth?
Actually, it's worth nothing. However, I am willing to help you and save your friend by giving you $50 for it.
Seriously, If it's original, it may need new caps and a general service. If there's nothing major wrong, and the valves are fine, that could be $100 - $200. It is an amp that would cause some interest on TradeMe and (I guess) go for somewhere between $400 and $800.
There. That will get the punters chucking their 5 cents worth in!
If I saw this on TM with a Buy Now of $500, I'd grab it.

I concur, in good working order worth 4- 800 notes at least.slowfingers wrote:Actually, it's worth nothing. However, I am willing to help you and save your friend by giving you $50 for it.

The cosmetic condition looks good.
I will offer $60.00.

$400 easy in its apparent condition. An serious Jansen collector would go higher than $800 if it is in really good nick inside and out (one who isn't a penny pinching, lowballing time waster, anyway).

fair point. I guess there's a difference between what it's worth and what it'd sell for in the open market.nzsimon1 wrote:I was thinking in the $1500 mark but what would I know
What can you buy with new speakers valves and caps for a few hundred ?

Without a Fender/Mesa/Marshall badge there's a big difference between what it's worth and what it would sell for on TM.

Re: What's my Jansen worth?
too many people buy on the strength of the marketing shame really
It is still an all valve amp with new parts it must be worth more than a shitty practice amp from ashton
The real question is of course not what it is worth today but what will it be worth in 10 years and that is the real killer it will be either nothing or moonbeams

Re: What's my Jansen worth?
Thanks everyone and cheers nzsimon1 I was actually thinking the same amount... purely based on what it's worth to me and what I could possibly wrench out of someone who desires it... haha.
But, in all honesty, with Celestion speakers and TAD valves, it's about $500 worth right there + new caps and a service (within the last 6 months)... Surely I can get a bit more...
I'm not really interested in selling on the open market, however, just wanted a fair price to sell to a mate where both of us are coming out winners.
Cheers again

Re: What's my Jansen worth?
A head will generally sell for 300 - 600 depending on condition etc. I would have thought $600 - $800 for combo with trem
