Fender Jaguar
At the moment, i'm dreaming about owning a '62 Reissue Jaguar in Black/Tortoiseshell. No, that's not the Classic Player version, it's the American Vintage version.
I'll have to keep dreaming for a long time, but has anybody played/owned/still own either a Reissue or one of the originals?
P.S. What's the main difference between the Jaguar and the Jazzmaster (besides the Jazzmaster having less chrome and less controls?)

Re: Fender Jaguar
I was in a band where I played a Japanese reissue Jag and the other guy played a Japanese reissue Jazz (we were really into My Bloody Valentine). This was circa '95. I always felt my guitar was a bit too bright, but the jazz sounded amazing! Now I play a tele - go figure!
Just my two cents, for what it's worth.

Re: Fender Jaguar
I used to have a re-issue Jag and i've currently got an early 70's Jazzmaster so I may be able to help. The Jag has the same shorter scale as a Mustang where as the Jazzmaster has the same scale length as a Strat or Tele. The Jazzmaster pick ups are fatter sounding than the Jag and I found the pick ups on the Jag I had very harsh and trebley which is why I got rid of it. I bought my Jag around 1995 and only had it for about 6 months before I gave up. I'd like to get hold of one again and have another attempt at making it sound good. I've heard a lot of cool bands make them sound good so it's definately possible. I wonder what the Seymour Duncan antiquity Jag pick ups sound like? They do a great job at Strats and Teles so i'd imagine it would be the same with a Jag. Regardless of which one you choose just remember that as soon as you strum a chord the bridge and trem design on both will allow the strings to fall off the saddles. Neat!

Re: Fender Jaguar
Jaguar = short scale length, 22 frets, more chrome, thinner pickups, more useless switches.
Jazzmaster = Normal Fender scale length, more elegant control system, 21 frets, fatter pickups.
Don't discount the Classic Player versions. The changes they made on those seem to be necessary improvements. We had a classic player Jaguar that was a dog at first, but beautiful once Simcha set it up properly. The classic player Jazzmaster looks awesome and I have much GAS for it.

Re: Fender Jaguar
This is may be out of left field...
Have you considered a Fender Squier Supersonic or a Fender Jagmaster? These are both from the Vista series made in the 1990's in Japan. They both retain the 'offset look' of the jaguar/jazzmaster, and have the advantage of a strat style trem, Having a strat style trem doesn't look as cool, but I would say it is probably more practical.
I’ve got the Supersonic, and my good friend has got the Jagmaster. The weak point in the guitars is the electronics and pickups. We both replaced the pots etc. I’ve put Seymour Duncan P-Rails in mine, and my friend has put a Dimarzio x2n in the bridge and I think a P90 in the neck.
With the new pickups - the supersonic and the Jagmaster guitars hold their own against the Japanese Jazzmaster/Jaguar/Jagstang guitars.
My friends Jagmaster has actually got a genuine Jaguar neck on it.
Another interesting note about the supersonic..
The Supersonic was designed by Joe Carducci, who was Fender's electric guitar product manager at the time. It is alleged that Carducci was a keen Jimi Hendrix fan and that his design of the Super-Sonic was highly influenced by a picture of Hendrix playing a Fender Jazzmaster 'upside-down', or left-handed.
Note: Don’t confuse the current Squier Jagmasters made in Korea, with the Japanese Vista series Jagmasters, They are not the same.
Check out the Harmony Central reviews on the Supersonic.

Re: Fender Jaguar
I must say, the neck on the supersonic was one of the most comfortable ones I've ever played.
