Good to know. I can get close enough for my liking with the Metal Muff through my amp anyway.

Pretty much anything off Andy Timmons 'Resolution' album is tonevana for my ears.

The guitar tone on Brothers In Arms (the song, from the album of the same name, but not the album, cause there's lots of different guitars on that) is the only thing in the world that makes me want to actually own a Les Paul.

Beautiful piece of music that.

Les Paul - +1 to john sykes...evrything he's done
Big yup to both of those though Jeff Beck didn't play rhythm on the Rod Stewart version - Rod Stewart sang on the Jeff Beck version! Every single note JB plays on that is an explosion of tasty goodness.

Humbucker lead tone for me would be live version of "the Loner" (or maybe 'the messiah will come again') - Gary Moore
Humbucker rhythm - John Sykes "Cryin in the rain"
Hate telecasters but anthing by Roy Buchanan (esp. "the Messiah will come again" and "hey joe") is the exception to that rule.
Ultimate (for me) clean strat sound - SRV 'Riviera paradise'
"The large print giveth and the small print taketh away" - Tom Waits

can-o-wasps - pretty much anything by early faith no more. I'm unsure how such a bitingly rubbish tone managed to work into enjoyable music... but work it does.

Yeah, I've always loved that track, too. No idea why it's not mentioned more often, it's a great bit of tone.
"Vince, have you ever tried playing an expensive bass?" - Polarbear.
"And isn't that the finest acoustic bass guitar feedback solo you've ever heard?" - Billy Moose.

Close to a tele and dedicated to Roy Buchanan:
Jeff Beck on an Esquire - Cause we've ended up as lovers

Alvin Lee - First solo on The Bluest Blues
David Lindley - Slide in Jackson Brown's Running on Empty

Which reminds me (despite my professed tele hate) that Jeff Beck played a tele on People get ready as well...I'm obviously not a very conciencious (tele) objector!

Yeah I remember the video for "Ambitious" off the same album where he was playing a Jackson Plank-o-Caster and he still looked cool.

Oh, and 'Thumb' by Kyuss on _Blues For The Red Sun_ for stoner rock. (No youtube link, I swear that site has a highpass filter on every single video it hosts.)

That tone is like Vegemite, it's thick and yet it cuts through everything.
