To me it's always been the pop equivalent of Jolene (by Dolly Parton)

a big plus one.... thankfully I've been here less than a decade so didn't have to put up with it for so long...NZRS-Dave wrote:To me it's always been the pop equivalent of Jolene (by Dolly Parton)
If I'd had to play it since the 80's, I'd be swinging by my neck from the 'Why does love do this to me' tree, right about now.

Re: Sharon O' Neil - Maxine
It came out at a time (early '80s) when other good Kiwi songs were a tad thin on the ground. IMO, Sharon was a good songwriter, with considerable sex appeal (which somehow detracted from her musical ability for some folk). I think Maxine was her best song and I enjoyed playing it, even though its been some time since I did. Like all songs, if you cover it you can inject something of yourself into it, or play it karaoke style. I found the bassline to be cool, since I paid only scant attention to the recorded version and used my own lines which tbh differed almost every time I played it, especially if I was playing a fretless at the time.
He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...
