Yeah I had a blat on their YouTube thingy - sounded pretty cool, and a different vibe from the previous two albums. Might be worth a compact disc.druz15 wrote:can't wait for new Mastodon tomorrow

If it's half as good as Crack the Skye it'll still be brilliant

'Odd Fellows Rest' by Crowbar. The slow, sludgy, bassy mess sounds heavy as hell. Also, 'You Lied' by Tool for the same reason.
I think I need to look up some more stuff in this vein.

The Black Keys album, El Camino.
One thing everyone in my house can agree on musically. Even my 2 year old is always saying "Black Keys on!". She likes "Gold On The Ceiling" which is also my favourite song in a long time.

A friend lent me the first series of Treme. I hadn't heard of it before, it's made by the people who did The Wire, only it's set in New Orleans post-Katrina and, so far, seems to be about rebuilding the city. Best thing I've seen in ages. And the soundtrack is nothing short of incredible.
"Vince, have you ever tried playing an expensive bass?" - Polarbear.
"And isn't that the finest acoustic bass guitar feedback solo you've ever heard?" - Billy Moose.

It's great isn't it? The second series is just as excellent. It's one of the best TV shows I've ever seen.Vince wrote:A friend lent me the first series of Treme. Treme is on SoHo heaps, but I only ever seem to be able to catch bits of it. I try not to MySky stuff on SoHo too, as I'd wind up filling the box in a month.

I know he doesn't get a lot of love in NZ due to his overt American-ness, but my favourite record so far this year is probably the new Sprinsteen one, Wrecking Ball.
Here's a sample (with Tom Morello!)
