I'd never picked up a bass before last night, when I collected it from our esteemed leader, who conveniently lives only 5 minutes from my place. Thought it might be interesting to have a play around on bass and maybe use it for some home recording... one day. I also jam with a couple of guys from time to time and 3 guitars gets a bit over-crowded, so next time I can (hopefully) play along on bass.
As a complete n00b, this will probably give the bass players here a good laugh. But I don't mind embarrassing myself...
So anyway, I plugged into my Fender Blues Deluxe and thought it sounded pretty decent. I presume at home volume levels, I'm not going to do any damage to the speaker?
The polytune worked with it. Tuners were a little stiff, like I needed to be Godzilla to budge one. Can I squirt a bit of CRC into them? Would that help? Or do I need to pull the whole bridge/tuner assembly apart and oil everything?
Some pedals worked alright with the bass, but not many of the overdrive/dirt pedals. Compressor was fine. Wah no good. Micro POG - whoooo-hoooo!!! Glad I didn't flick that fella after all. Just awesome with the sub bass thump. Delay - yeah, no. Not really. TC Nova Mod - oh yeah, another winner! Chrous, both engines on chorus and tri-chorus. Choice as a choice thing!
The other thing is I found it much easier to play with a pick than finger style, and I guess I played it like lead guitar. But the tone and a half bends were murder on my fingers.
So it was a good change, playing along to some of the backing tracks I have on my Jamman pedal with the old bass rumble.
