The journalism thing aside, I'm finding the "leave the little guys alone!" comments a bit weird.

The first thing that comes to mind is that it seems to be pretty easy to be magnanimous with Ed's money.

The second is that this is a forum full of posts warning others about douchebags on TradeMe. What's the difference?

The third thing that comes to mind is that this particular "little guy" is not doing any of the other small boutique manufacturers any favours by having such shitty customer service.

Tis all about personal reactions, not logic. If you have ever been the little guy, or your good friends were the little guys, then you might identify with the little guy.

Well, no... In my field of work, I *am* one of "the little guys". A heap of friends are also "little guys". And I can honestly say that people who do shitty work and get all snotty about stuff can drive potential customers into the arms of bigger companies. That's logic. So no, no sympathy from me. All the smaller businesses can offer, really, is superior quality and customer service and if you can't deliver on that, what's left?

And a deal is a deal. You get money, you send the product. If you can't, you explain why and offer a refund. Not exactly rocket science.

It's on the internet. Behind a signup process that takes 20 seconds. It's public. Everything on the internet is public in my opinion.

That's it in a nutshell. I don't get the idea that the little guy should get a free pass for what, merely being the little guy? Absolute bullshit. It's business, not charity. The little guy is getting the gift of business that would otherwise go to a big guy, so if he doesn't deliver and doesn't adequately communicate any problems to people whose money he has up front, then let the chips fall where they may. A person's reputation is theirs to squander or protect like it's gold. Little guys who do a good job in all areas of business increase their chances of going on to become big guys. It's called competition, and if the little guy fails, he doesn't deserve to be a big guy.

Yeah, come on Ross, you're the youth demographic. You know that what's behind the forum doors isn't gonna show up in the google searches the way a bad review on a public blog does.

I'm not sure the youth demographic is represented on here any more. They've moved on from forums and facebook, its all about <140 characters and snapchat now.... or yesterday anyway.

Honestly, everyone gets that you think that what I did was a bad idea - how about you give it a bit of a rest?

And for all your talk of how you've taken pains to keep your negative comments "behind the forum doors" and off my Facebook pages etc (where I would have simply presented the same reasons I've laid out here anyway) out of "respect", you know damn well that this post is in a public area of the forum, so any talk of respect is just false modesty on your part, from where I'm sitting. Everything we say here IS public, and if you really wanted to give me some sincere advice as a friend, or patriarch of the local scene, or wherever it is that you think you're coming from, you would have done so via PM rather than publicly. And without going on, and on, and on, and on, even though everyone gets it. Sure, I could take the first post as advice, and not take it personally, but I think anyone would be surprised if it didn't start to feel a little bit like a personal attack after your unending deluge of posts trying to drive home the exact same point over and over again.

And why on earth would you believe that forum posts don't rank highly on Google? When I search for gear info, TGP, SD, Grailtone, TDPRI and so on always rank highly. On numerous occasions NZG itself has popped up on the first page for things that I've searched for as well.

Plenty of youth in the memorable gigs thread. I was just happy when I saw there is a few other oldies who remember things like the early Ramones concert.
