Wait, so John Mayer doesn't play Fender anymore? Maybe he should go to Reverend and get a Jetstream 390.

Re: John Mayers PRS'
I just completely ignore the artists signed to PRS because I don't think I like any of them. In fact, I don't know half of them.
But PRS still make the best guitars.

You've got it Si?! Well done.SimpleSi wrote:I have a P22 I just acquired, it has the piezo switch that's tiny.. It's hard to use full flight. Lol.
I have to use it in between chorus and verses etc when it's easier to change

I wouldn't switch to piezo mid-song, but have you tried putting the switch mid position and then using the mix knob to go from normal pickups to piezo. That might work more easily for you.

Re: John Mayers PRS'
PRS's have been a bit of a personal enigma for me. They have great finishes, are very well built, and the few I've played have played really well, but for whatever reason I just haven't really clicked with them. Who knows....

he is a great player, why the hate? I`m a bit annoyed he boned Katy Perry but that's just jealously on my part.
wish I could play blues with that amount of subtly

There are still some that think the neck PU is moved to accommodate the extra frets which only proves they cannot detect the difference in length of each.

Re: John Mayers PRS'
Vernon Reid's silver PRS looks pretty sweet, unlike the ghastly FLAMEY MAPLE with PURPLE kind of deal that most PRS'es seem to have. Ditto to the people who are saying PRS switches are hard work. I even find a Strat switch to be too fiddly. I love the Gibson LP switch, so easy to flick on a upstrum . . .

Two reasons I guess.
Some of his stuff is vomit-worthy (Your Body is a Wonderland, etc).
He's a massive dickhead - eg http://www.ranker.com/list/the-15-douch ... ity-quotes

Re: John Mayers PRS'
This. He's a very good player and really loves the guitar and it's history. His Guitar tech is SRV's old tech who gives him stuff that was meant for the great man before he boarded the chopper. His "two rock" Amp's sound bloody beautiful too.mrmofo wrote:he is a great player, why the hate? I`m a bit annoyed he boned Katy Perry but that's just jealously on my part.

I got into John Mayer in the early 00's when he was relatively knew and before he became "too big". His talent hasn't squandered but he's done a few douche things. He was everywhere as well which I think made him grind on people in the end.
But you can't knock his talent, not just with the guitar but his song writing too. Room full of squares has to be one of my favourite albums by any artist and I'm a 80's hair metal guy "Death to all but metal!"

Plus... damn he's on hell of a ladies man... the man has gift with the women. Jen Love Hewitt, Cam Diaz, Jen Anderson, Heidi Kulm, Jessica Simpson, Supposedly Taylor Swift and now Katy Perry. I think there was a few others along the way but you gotta take your hat off to that list of hotties! Who wouldn't be Jelous and he's only like mid 30's?
The best things in life are actually really expensive!

This was me, but Conway showed me two I'd love to own. One of them went to Molly so it could be anywhere by now.mr_sooty wrote:I've never played a PRS I liked. They're well made guitars, they just don't feel right to me.

Re: John Mayers PRS'
Yeah, I've always been a bit on the fence with JM because I really like his playing, I like his tone, and I do like a lot of his songs. I respect him as a musician, but I'm kinda with you on this. That song and Bigger than my Body, his earlier stuff, was horrible, but obviously he's improved since then. But yeah he's just a bit of a douchebag. And he really seems to rate himself which is never very endearing.sirvill wrote:mrmofo wrote:he is a great player, why the hate? If you want to understand the hate better, watch the 'Where the Light Is' DVD, with special attention to the bits where he's driving around in his Mercedes with a poodle on his lap talking about how incredibly famous he is and how hard it was back when he was 'plugging into loop pedals'. And where he's trying to decide which Rolex to wear before he goes on stage.
