Random find on TM resulted in a jaunt out a South Auckland Cashies to pick up this one last weekend.
Schecter Diamond Series Blackjack C-1

I’ve owned a Schecter PT-1 before (great guitar) and although I’ve found the quality to be solid, a lot of their designs put me off. However, the Blackjacks have always been a bit less extreme and rather fetching looking.
Biggest points go towards being loaded with a decent set of pickups (‘59/JB combo – tried and true!) and 5-way switch. At the moment, I am loving positions 2 & 4 on clean tones drenched in reverb/delay for those post-rock moments. Cranking the gain gets you all the sounds you’d expect, especially from the JB bridge, but without that sterility that you often get with really high-gain and active pickups.
Bought it with the intention of using it for my heavier band, but to be honest, I’m loving the clean and mid-gain sounds this thing produces. Surprisingly good jazz tones and very Fender-sounding in those middle positions. Amazed at the condition too… for a Cashies trade-in, it’s probably a 4.5 out of 5 in terms of mintness.
Only gripe is that lack of comfort curve on the upper body for the forearm, which I’m used to, but I’m getting used to it.
On a side note, Manukau is fully of some very dodgy people on a Saturday afternoon…. Every other person in the store asked me for change or cigarettes and I caught one guy peering in the windows of the Subby right outside the store….
