Re: Album Diary
Cheers for the comments guys! I'll have some more stuff to add in the next few days hopefully. I might try and upload just isolated tracks of a few things to show what the individual instruments are sounding like at this stage too. We start the guitars on Monday so I'll get some photos of that happening next week!

Re: Album Diary
I set up some of the gear for the electric guitars quickly yesterday and took a quick pre-soundchecked photo so thought I'd quickly post it. I only have the two amps, and they're no frills type deals, but I love them for different reasons. The ac30 is my main amp and will be used for the majority of the electrics. The Blues Jnr is a great little amp. I swapped out the stock speaker for a G12 H which I think works a bit better. In my head I hear a few ambient, washy and clean parts being done with it. That could all change when we push record though.
The canvas of Auckland's waterfront is from the Warehouse and was $10. It will obviously add to the Mojo of the sound....

Haha, don't worry Ben, I said "some of the gear" not "all the gear". Although, I've always quite liked 57s on amps. Given it's not very 'sexy' thoughbbrunskill wrote:dear simon. pls use moar sexy mics on electric quitar. 1 sm57= not much sexy.

Re: Album Diary
Cracked into guitars this morning and have been able to get through quite a bit so far. Pre-production is really worth it's weight in gold when it comes to tracking! Here are some photos.
Here's the control room I guess you'd call it.
Guitars/Bass.
AC30 Mic'd up using the Avantone CV12.
I did a sort of Wet/Dry earlier. The Delay and Reverb went to the ac30, and the Rotary went to the Blues Jnr. Had a touch of the spring reverb on the Fender and just had it mic'd with a 57 (Sorry Ben).

Re: Album Diary
Can't get the Soundcloud player to show up fro some reason?... Pretty sure it's my computer deficiencies at fault. Anyhow....
Here are a couple of the isolated tracks from recording. The first is the raw drum track from one of the songs. The only 'post' work on it are Gate's on the Kick, Snare and Toms, and the only EQing is on the two Kick mic's, which have been EQed so they can be blended together, and make sense. The rest is all natural....
And here is the untouched Electric guitar rhythm track from the same song.
I've started coming up with a few concepts for the artwork now too, so am starting to look around at a few designers/artists....
P.S For any of you Auckland folk. I'm up playing at Backbeat this Saturday with Auckland based, Velvetland and Josh Herbst. Should be a great gig, so if you feel like talking gear, or want to hear/support a few NZ musicians that would be awesome! I haven't played in Auckland in years so not expecting the biggest turn out but the more the merrier!

Haha, cheers BG, it's coming along pretty well at the moment! Actually started some bass tracking today, which seems to suddenly pull it all together sound-wise. Just don't tell a bass player thatBg wrote:sounding great so far, can't wait for the finished article and I want a signed copy please

bass players are pretty grounded, its all about their roots.
