how to get some brownsound gain/compression
I'm keen to learn some new tricks so have been listening to some van halen on my daily commutes.
What are the tricks to get that sort of gain for tapping when practicing at home? My amps are both effectively clean at play at home volumes. I've got a double hotcake, a dirty little secret v3 and a pumpkin pie to play with effects wise - will any of these cut it or do I have to go pedal shopping?
Nothing with a wang bar on it, so still having a think about how I can get my mits on a superstrat with a floyd, don't really want to part with any of my current guitars and there's no room in the cupboard for any more. Don't think putting the bigsby back on the LPJ will cut it.

as far as wang goes... you need a strat with a decent wilkinson 2 point or a floyd. Some may scoff at the wilky but with locking tuners and graphite nut, as stable a wang as I've ever had.
I've found floyds mostly to be a little hit and miss, as in, I know exactly how I want a trem to respond, And sometimes due to manufacturing/ string choices etc, it just can't do it for me, I like a very light chirpy vibrato. which can result in 9's and two springs.
Amp wise, if its for home - Bias Amp. Seriously cool bit of software, not cheap but there are dodgy versions freely available. I bought mine after 3 months of using it pretty much for practice. Its like a software kemper, but the download patches are pretty cool. I have Bias FX as well, which is less amps, less fiddling but more fx. Though some are shite. both work on standalone on windows/osx and both if you have a license.
and no a bigsby will just make you looks spesh.

So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

For pedals
BSIAB
CMAT Brownie
Mad Professor 1
Wampler Pinnacle
Guitar isn't tooooo dependant as Eddie sounds like Eddie regardless if it's a mongrel strat, Explorer, or whatever.
For the early brown sound its mostly amp, roaring plexi.
I'm sure there's an easy path down the digital road.
However nothing beats a plexi or plexi derivative.
Best example is a Bray amp.

Suhr Riot = Brown Sound. I'm selling one for $160 - try before you buy etc.
Set your amp EQ fairly straight up, adjust treble and bass to your liking, use the bridge pickup on your Aurum and you should be ready to go.

Your DLS with delay will get you VH1. He really didn't use THAT much gain in those early days. Just really cranked loud and delay and reverb. And amazing fingers haha.

Probably this. If you have your DLS with the gain dimed you should be able to get pretty close. Perhaps set your amp slightly dirty as well and use your bridge humbucker.Scooter13 wrote:Your DLS with delay will get you VH1. He really didn't use THAT much gain in those early days. I had a DLS ages ago but it wasn't v3. From memory I don't think it was as saturated as something like the Suhr Riot, but it would get you most of the way there.

Check out 1:04.
Will have a crack over the weekend with the DLS, and hit you up for the riot if I still need more. That clip sounds wicked.

Dunno about the brown sound, but guitar on 10 into an overdrive into the DLS on superlead setting with the preamp turned up should give you ridiculous gain.
