NLPD: R9
After getting an LPC last year it somewhat piqued my interest in getting an R series LP. Picked up a 2010 R9 a few weeks ago. It's in pretty good shape - almost no wear on the frets and not many dings.
3.9kg, which is not too heavy. Figure on the maple top is rather average, but under 4Kg + nicer maple top usually commands higher price tag.
Sounds quite resonant and "alive" especially for a non-chambered LP. The stock BB1/BB2 pickups sound alright for lower gain tones but I can't unhear the A2 magnet "scratchiness" when playing high gain rhythm so these'll have to go. Have a pair of BKP's on the way, Cold Sweat bridge + Abraxas neck.

Soldano SLO100 x2 | Wizard MC1 & MC2 | Diezel Herbert
Fryette Pittbull CL | Marshall 2203KK | Krank Rev 50 | Mesa Mark 2A

Verellen Meatsmoke | Synergy SYN1 | Mesa Studio

He offered it to me in an outside deal for $5,500 but the 'heart' thing just narrows the appeal.godgrinder wrote:Nope. Now you mentioned it, did someone buy that SR LP?Jellybelly wrote: Is this one from the guy who had the Southern Rock Tribute LP for sale?
On the subject of Custom Shop Les Pauls, I quite like the sunburst Custom on TM at the mo. Could maybe be had for $4k outside TM.

Answers to questions were evasive at best.
Asked about condition issues and he did a left turn and tried to tell me it was "factory aged".
Nice if it was but it was not.
Nothing about that on the COA and it also had the same corrosion issues but worse than the SRT.
My guess it was a very close coastal life.
If he just said it had a rough life and needed a bloody good clean/going over.
I may have been a little more interested in proceeding.
His pricing seemed to vary a lot between prospective buyers

Re: NLPD: R9
Yussssss. Lovery. Congrats dude.
My recent R7 has blown me away in terms of what a real LP should be. Its got BB1 and 2s too, and I think they are seriously fine pickups in it....for rock. For anything moar than classic heavy metal I imagine you'd want ceramic type pups or so on for the tighter mids?
My LP trad has a Dimarzio SuperDistortion and that gets me to where I want to go for my harder rock type songs, but the R7 with BB1/2 through a Super Reverb Fender type is fucking amazing...makes me wanna play Lynyrd Skynyrd etc.

Re: NLPD: R9
I can make the BB2 work for high gain but there's this "scratch/squeal" sound in the attack which seems to be what I hear in A2 pickups. Gets tiring pretty soon.Scooter13 wrote:Its got BB1 and 2s too, and I think they are seriously fine pickups in it....for rock. It also feels pretty weird when your megabucks custom shop guitar comes with the same pickup as used on budget models.
