Unfortunately that would rely on an Auckland gearfest actually happening...?werdna wrote:At a gear fest we should have an MTS corner and let everyone hear the beasts.
I'd like to bring along my plexi head and do a blind test to see who can guess whether it is the module or the real thing. It's like those blind wine tastings, except that I expect you guys to do better than the wine experts.

You’d hope it would be able to do a plexi, because it’s probably more expensive than a plexiwerdna wrote:At a gear fest we should have an MTS corner and let everyone hear the beasts.

Just askMattallica wrote:That's a great price! but i can neither pretend to be an artist or ask them to be complicit in excluding paperwork..SimpleSi wrote:Contact Synergy and ask for a discount and editing paperwork..
I've been given $325 as a price per module from Synergy
$425 for a SYN1
$725 for a SYN2
Modules $325ea
$1075 for a SYN5050
Maybe it's just the pricing they've given me through artists discounting
I just make YouTube videos for pedal demos.
I literally just asked for a discounted price list because it's expensive to ship here and they sent me the list.

Re: The NZG MTS Thread
Purchased a stock Randall Top Boost and Ultra Lead this week.
Ultra Lead is meh. Woofy and fizzy.
Top boost doesn't sound like an AC to me. Way too much gain on tap. Sounds better than the Ultra Lead.

The top boost is as gainy as the Plexi module, maybe more so.Mattallica wrote:Purchased a stock Randall Top Boost and Ultra Lead this week.

Generally they are all a bit gainier than you would expect. The tweed is very gainy. The blackface is as gainy as you would expect the Tweed to be. I put a different preamp in my Blackface to recover some cleanness. The Top Boost is heavy as fuck for a Vox sound. The plexi needed to be a bit more lively so I had a Jose mod done. After the mod I haven't wanted to play with the Brown module. The modded plexi sounds better than the brown. Read the forum posts on Grailtone and you get an idea of what modules are good or bad.

Re: The NZG MTS Thread
Yeah i did trawl the Grailtone forums before i bought them. They didn't cost much, so i thought i may as well hear them for myself and get some doners out of it. I will be more picky from now on though.werdna wrote:The top boost is as gainy as the Plexi module, maybe more so.Mattallica wrote:Purchased a stock Randall Top Boost and Ultra Lead this week.

Re: The NZG MTS Thread
If you want to lose some gain in the Top Boost, stick in a 5751 in place of the 12AX7. Worked for the Blackface preamp.

Re: The NZG MTS Thread
There are some mods online at GrailTone for making the Top Boost module more like the original circuit. They are easy to do. But I agree, it is way too gainy as is. I quite like the tone, but I wish it had more headroom.

Thanks Andrew, reading up on this now. I haven't considered swapping pre-amp valves beforewerdna wrote:If you want to lose some gain in the Top Boost, stick in a 5751 in place of the 12AX7. Worked for the Blackface preamp.

Re: The NZG MTS Thread
Best to start with the V1. Should be enough. If you're in Auckland I have a spare brand new 5751 you could have.Mattallica wrote:Thanks Andrew, reading up on this now.
