I started learning to play in the late 80s. Practice setup consisted of somewhere to sit, a tape deck (and later on, some CDs) within reach, an amp that was far too loud for home use. And if you were lazy/lucky maybe you'd managed to find a book with the chords or even tab for the song you wanted to learn. Oh, and a (Boss) tuner at hand plus a mechanical metronome.
Practising today (still trying to learn Technical Difficulties.... grrr). And I realise just how much things have changed. See this photo:

By way of explanation:
- iPad on the side running DuetDisplay - has the Kemper Rig Manager loaded so I can choose my rig on the fly and/or try out new ones;
- old iPad on the desk running Mackie Master Fader 5 (because it controls my new mixer the DL16S that I'm using in place of my unreliable Line6 M20D);
- iMac running HX Editor (for my recently acquired HX Stomp, which I'm using for a grab'n'go and headphone travel kit);
- ToastME, which is the unofficial but most excellent Kemper editor (and can also operate Kemper's tuner);
- Metronome app; and
- iTunes to play backing tracks.
Who knows what things will look like for the kids in 20+ years!
