G&L Legacy
This was on my doorstep when I got home tonight. Ripped it out of its packaging, threw it in the car and headed off to Band Practice.
First impressions:
Good.
It's not sunburst!
The edge of the fretboard is more rounded than most of the G&L's I've played. I like that.
Big frets. A double edged sword if you're heavy handed but really good sometimes as well.
Strung quite heavy. It suits this guitar well.
It's been around a few years but still has all the protective film on the pickguard and other plastic!
Meh
Came in a shitty bag and it's about 20mm too long to fit in any of my Fender cases.
Tuning's not stable. Could be old strings, could be the wobble bits. Will see what new strings and a couple of hardwood wedges do.
It's voice is exactly what you expect from a Strat. Until it's compared with my '54 which is sweeter and has much more character.
Overall first impressions:
This is a winner. I like playing it a lot. Sort out the tuning stability and it's a brilliant backup guitar. Give it the voice it deserves and it could become #1.
Question; Do standard Fender single coils fit into these? I can sense a session at Jason Lollar's emporium of pickup awesomeness in my near future.
I put a wide, red strap on this and plugged it into my shocking gay pink coily cable. It looks hilarious.
