Re: Abbey Harmonic II
So... the amp was working, then you did some stuff, now it doesn’t pass a signal- is that right? If yes, what exactly did you do to it? Most logical explanation is that something you changed wasn’t right or something you disconnected to change things wasn’t put back correctly.

Re: Abbey Harmonic II
I picked up an Abbey Harmonic 11 for free a lil while ago. I want to replace the valves but apart from the 6l6gwb there's nothing printed on the others so I'm not sure what they are. Are all 5 the same? My other amps are solid state so I'm a bit of a noob. Let me know if you want more pics

Re: Abbey Harmonic II
There should be two 6L6GCs at the back and the rest look to be 12A_7s of some type. Can you post photos of the actual valves?

Re: Abbey Harmonic II
RectifiedAmps It appears I lied a little - the two valves on there lonesome are 12ax7 but the other 3 have nothing printed on them. Would one assume all 5 are 12ax7's? And another stupid question from a valve noob - when replacing ALL of them as I plan to do, do any need to be bought in matched sets?RectifiedAmps wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 9:07 am There should be two 6L6GCs at the back and the rest look to be 12A_7s of some type. Cheers!

Re: Abbey Harmonic II
The 6L6s should be a matched pair. That's not relevant for the 12AX7 preamp tubes. I have them all available at Tone Lounge (link in signature).

Re: Abbey Harmonic II
Hi Lawrence. Do you have any pic's of the big old 100w amp you had?Lawrence wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2017 2:43 pm I had a couple of the Abbey 30s, a harmonic, and a great beast one-off that had a Voxish preamp on a 100 watt marshall esq power section....all great. I used the 100 watt with a Les Paul custom and a switch that swapped the speaker over to a leslie....crazy days. The Abbey 30s I ran full tit with a MXR 6 band graphic in front pushing +10 or so dB at 800 Hz....wow!
I have one here (in Melb) with the Made In Christchurch badge (no.045) on the back.
Mine was modified by a fellow here in Melb to have a more high-gain, master volume layout.
(It's a beast!)
Would be really curious to one day compare back against what the original was like!
Would be amazing if somebody could make a video demo... but not sure how many of those original 100w examples are out there.

Re: Abbey Harmonic II
No I wish I did. I only had the 100w for a few weeks...I seem to remember some financial crisis...EvLoutonian wrote: ↑Fri Oct 21, 2022 11:27 am

What I really wish is that I had recordings from this time. This was the Hillborough in 1978-79. There was a chap with a high speck yamaha cassette and a couple of small condensers who recorded us a few times but I can't recall his name and I have no idea where the tapes went. While all our old fans wax lyrical about how good we sounded I suspect that in modern terms it would be pretty awful!
