Power Supply question

Post by HB »

OK, here's one for ya's:

I'm buying a pedal from the states that takes 9V AC 1000mA, using a 2.5mm jack. I can't find an adapter anywhere with those specs in NZ! That includes Dick Smith models with the universal plugs...The pedal is being shipped with the US adapter so I can always get a stepdown transformer, but it would be a lot easier and less clutter for me to get a straight power supply for it.

Any ideas?

The Boss PSM-5 Power Supply & Master Switch, which can supposedly power several stompers at once, may have enough amperage.

I have a 9v 1 amp supply - I'll hafta check tonite that it works. PM me if you're interested. $10 +post, and you'll need to fit a barrel plug to the end of the cable.

Failing that, slurpustronics have (or have had) them for round $35 IIRC, if y'in AK.
this one's special, this is the ultimate, after this i'll never need another amp, EVER...Image

I think the AC part is the hard one to find. Most adaptors are DC rectified. Jaycar may have something. I have seen them around. I pulled the diode rectifier out a DC one to get an AC supply for my tube pedal. Not the kind of thing you do unless you know how to design a tube pedal in the first place.

There's a company in Auckland called HFA that make custom power supplies to your desired specs. I had one made for my POD, and it cost about $40 from memory. They are great quality and I think they are sold at the Rockshop.

Yep it's definitely AC. I've tried the surplustronics site and many others to no avail - at least not for right amp rating. Thanks for the offer stark - is that 9v 1amp supply you mentioned AC?

I found the HFA website, thanks Archtop Fan. I've emailed them to see what they can come up with.

Probably not (sorry should have read your post more carefully)

I'l check it tonite and get back to you if it looks promising.

HFA are the best.

Is it for a Line 6 pedal or what? I may have something for you if HFA can't help out.

Just waiting to hear back from HFA, Trueman. By the looks of their site, they should be able to come up with something. I'll let you know if I don't have any luck.

The pedal in question is a Foxrox Captain Coconut 2 - been wanting one of these for a loooong time! It's not due to be sent until Tuesday (US time) so I should have time to sort something out by the time it gets here.

Yeah, I'm pretty stoked about getting one. It turns out that Dave Fox just stopped making them the same week I found this one second hand! Apparently they were a bit too labour intensive so he decided to stop making them once he reached 1000 units, which he's done. Hopefully I should have mine next week.

Oh, and I heard from HFA and it'll be about $30 for the power supply. Those guys rock!

Glad you got it sorted out. Let us know what you think of the pedal too. Maybe a mini review with some soundclips? :)
