My SA-70 is a short scale bass. Distance from tailpiece to tuner for A string is about 96cm. Needs medium string length to make sure taper fits. See photo

foal30 wrote: Sun Nov 05, 2023 8:21 am Ok the LaBella Hofner set is a 34” winding length

So I know both DR and D’Addario also have that length ( they call it medium) but do not know if DR Legends Flats or Daddario Chromes are made 34”
Thanks
I see they are a fair bit heavier gauge than the la Bella beatle flats ? (.39-95 vs .45-105 or something )
Jay has used short scale flats (IIRC) Chromes
You can get them.95 E string

BUT I don’t know if they make a “Medium 34 winding length” set
Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places ?

Looking at your measurements and checking my photo, the d'addarios I bought would work for you too

45 - 100 would probably work tho I was hoping to get closer to the 39 - 95 McCartney uses. Maybe it wouldn’t be noticeable

Ball to taper would be right on the limit for these:
https://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/product ... omers-3020

This page suggests GHS re-manufactured these recently specifically to fit the hofner beatle bass but the proviso mentions that the packet needs to have the purple front with the winding lenth mentoined. The locally available ones have a different packet on the webnsite, thos this may just be an old image.
Maybe ill contact music planet and see

Right
Rabbit hole after rabbit hole and I think Ive found my strings:

Roto sound rs77 40-90 flats medium scale

https://www.rockshop.co.nz/rotosound-rs ... 0-50-75-90

Roughly the same price as the ddarios but significantly lighter. Also mentioned by bass player mag as their favourite flat wound and suitable fur das hofner bass!

Clicking and picking the bastard.
