Which electrical contact cleaner for amp pots?
My Bogner has a scratchy volume pot. Which contact cleaner should I buy and use?

Re: Which electrical contact cleaner for amp pots?
CRC contact cleaner has been cleaning my amp pots and tube sockets for years. I also use CRC electrical lubricant on the pots too.

Re: Which electrical contact cleaner for amp pots?
CRC seems to be the ‘gold standard’ but there are generic electrical contact cleaners that will clean & lube your pots. Jaycar has one that I’ve used and it definitely does the job. Using just a contact cleaner spray (isopropanol usually) is not a good idea unless you use it sparingly, otherwise they can dry out the pots. WD40 is not really a good idea but some do use it without problems.

Just don't use the regular CRC 5.56 or WD-40. These were the ones recommended earlier.

CRC 5-56 Electrical:

Bunnings and Mitre-10 carry both.

Re: Which electrical contact cleaner for amp pots?
Thanks. Seems to have fixed the issue I was having with the Bogner volume pot
Interestingly, my recollection is that this amp has been on this forum previously and was described as having had the schizo rotary switch upgraded to have more options. Turns out that was not the case - rather, the washer that sets the number of positions had been knocked out of place so instead of just having 4 positions, it went the full 12. But 2 did nothing and the other 8 was just 2 sets of the same 4. All corrected now

Worked really well for me too. Great cheaper alternative to Deoxit.

Deoxit do a version called I think fader cleaner. Intended for mixing desk faders etc. I have been informed that other cleaners leave a residue. The fader cleaner doesn't. It is of course ridiculously expensive, as is the postage from the US..

These are based in New Zealand and carry the Deoxit range:Dharmajester wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 6:14 pm Deoxit do a version called I think fader cleaner.
