John Frusciante
So.. say I was looking for tone similar to Mother's Milk/BSSM era Chili Peppers, where would I start?
John plays through a Marshall, so I guess that would be a good place? What Marshall should I look at? A DSL? Pedals wise.... well he has a pretty spastic pedalboard.
What about tone like the I Could Have Lied solo? Is that just a loud Marshall and his muted, wrapped-thumb style?
Or the Strip My Mind solo.. that's another of my favorite of his solo tones.
I'm just rambling now.. I don't really know why I even made this topic. It's fuckin late and I can't sleep.

Re: John Frusciante
I've seen a few vids of them playing live and from what I remember he's a bit of a Plexi man. Fuck knows on the pedals though.
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

I'd never buy a DSL... I got two words why: 'Good Kicking'.Khann wrote:What Marshall should I look at? A DSL?

The re-issues aren't too bad price-wise, especially 2nd-hand... if you can find one.Khann wrote:Yeah... can't really afford that though. Well, a Ceriatone one might be possible..

Re: John Frusciante
John likes his effects, i've watched enough vids of him, seen em live.... he prob good mates with Tom Morello and they conspire to fuk up other fans who wana sound like them.
Why do you wana sound just like him? Wouldn't you rather be able to play his licks, but have your own flavor?

Re: John Frusciante
How long have you been playing for?
I could have lied from memory is just guitar into amp with enough gain for breakup played with a good amount of dynamics.
There are a few "Frusciante-isms" in there though.
He might be using a fuzz or something along those lines, but the rest is just his fingers.

Not long enough, or played enough gear, to completely understand how certain sounds are made.Cabb wrote:How long have you been playing for?

The sound I'm talking about is the.... wooshy(?) sound.. no idea how to describe it. It doesn't really sound fuzzy. I assume it's just the strings muted.

What songs use the effect? Some of the boffins here will be able to tell you what it is.
