I’m sure it is, but does it matter?Conway wrote:OK, great. Thanks for that. So is the Two Notes that much better than the Cab Clone?Mattallica wrote:Available from Musicworks too, but also not listed on the website. You have to inquire through the website.Conway wrote: Can't see it on RS website???

Why would it not matter?! New price is pretty similar between the 2 units. And unfortunately I need 16 ohms.bender wrote:I’m sure it is, but does it matter?Conway wrote:OK, great. Thanks for that. So is the Two Notes that much better than the Cab Clone?Mattallica wrote:

Short answer: because if the difference is negligible, and you’re not using it to record something critical, it’s not worth worrying about. Just buy the one that’s most readily available at the most palatable price. If that’s the Captor, then cool! I just don’t think it’s worth getting hung up on which is “best”.Conway wrote:Why would it not matter?! New price is pretty similar between the 2 units. FWIW, I still think a mic is a good enough (and way cheaper) option... but I’m willing to accept that that could just be because I know what I’m doing with them.

How the fuck did this get so complex ??
Just plug your mic into a USB interface and then into a computer with what ever software you want.
Recorded shit loads if things like that.

His vocal mic? Then how does he hear himself singing?
A mic on the guitar cab? Probably going to pickup on the vocals coming out of the PA in the same room and the vocal mic will pickup the guitar and you get this strange reverb sound on playback.
How does the mic help him hear the drum machine and record it on its own track as well?
I agree it doesn't need to be complicated. Room mic + interface or zoom type device then done! It's a good place to start on the live multi instrument recording rabbit hole.

ohmage doesn't matter if you plug a speaker into the "thru" output, then the amp sees the speaker ohms.bender wrote:8ohmConway wrote:Is it 16 ohm?bender wrote:I have a Cab Clone that I don't really need. If you want it, it's yours for less than the price of an SM57.
ohmage only matters if you plug no speaker in for silent playing, then the amp sees the load presented by the cab clone.
If you can get a captor for a similar price to a cab clone, the captor is somewhat superior - reactive load for when you don't have a speaker plugged in, and somewhat inferior - only one cab sim built in, and it needs yet another bloody wall wart.

Edit: The captor comes with 16 cab sims that you can use in the DAW, but seems to have only 1 on the device itself. The cab clone has 3 on the device and a simple switch for them (open back, closed back, vintage)

Aren't we just talking about bedroom recording funsies here? Just record the guitar and drums then sing over it in another take.JHorner wrote:Which mic?StrummersOfThunder wrote:How the fuck did this get so complex ??

Or is the point to pretend you are playing live with a band? In which case ...play with some people.

Re: Home recording (with current tech/equipment as at early 2019)
My understanding is that Conway's goal is self improvement via listening to playback of a performance.
Agree you don't need to overcomplicate it, a $100 second hand room recording device will do it.
Agree that it can be done with individual mics on each thing, but caveat is that you can get some funky effects with mic placement and bleed.
Fairly sure DI is a popular option due to clean consistent results.
None of the above options is wrong.
I started at the first one, ended up at the last one, and will never go back.
YMMV.

yeh the DI thiing is the way to go if you want to totally avoid the other things, but even then im sure multiple mics would suit the bill given it doesnt have to be record company quality, if its just for self improvement.
